The police are investigating reports that thugs dressed in school uniforms, went into a St Catherine school twice last week and robbed a number of students.

Information reaching THE STAR is that two thugs had planned with students of the institution, dressed the part and stayed at a section of the school known to be frequented by boys who intentionally skip classes.

A number of students were said to be robbed of their lunch money at knifepoint last week Monday and Tuesday.

School officials could not be contacted for comment but when THE STAR contacted the Area 5 headquarters last night, a source admitted that the incident happened and added that investigations were being done.

The source, a detective inspector, added that the police have since heard that the alleged robbers are from a community close to the school, and are also said to be part of a gang which includes a number of male students from the school. They are also believed to be teenagers.

"Well you know last week there was Ash Wednesday and school was drawing close to the midterm break so it seems the men used that as their opportunity since school may not have been in it's regular full swing so to speak ... We are looking into it, hopefully we can get some progress real soon," the source said.
