Public Defender Earl Witter has called for a Commission of Enquiry into this week's military led operation in West Kingston during a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

He also disclosed that he has received several complaints of abuse by security forces from residents in communities.

Mr. Witter says the contents of those complaints will not be disclosed to the public but will be passed on to the relevant authorities.

The security forces stormed Tivoli Gardens in order to execute an extradition warrant on Western Kingston strongman Christopher "Dudus" Coke.

During the violent confrontation 73 persons, including one Jamaica Defence Force soldier was killed.

The government on Friday announced that Queens Council Pamela Benka-Coker has been appointed Chairman of an Emergency Powers Review Tribunal.

Retired Justice Henderson Downer and attorney at law Nancy Anderson are the other members of the Tribunal, who will review the cases of detention and the restriction of citizens by the security forces under the current State of Emergency in Kingston and St. Andrew.

In the meantime, Mr. Witter has urged Mr. Coke, now the subject of a massive manhunt, to turn himself in to the police so that a bloody confrontation is avoided.

He says despite reports in the overseas media that the alleged drug baron wants to make a deal with the US and UK authorities, those jurisdictions will have to be guided by the Jamaican law.
