Former Minister of Labour William Isaacs is dead.

Mr. Isaacs died Sunday at the age of 80.

In a statement, People's National Party (PNP) President Portia Simpson-Miller paid tribute to Mr. Isaacs' outstanding contribution to the nation and the PNP.

Mrs. Simpson-Miller said Mr. Isaacs was an excellent Minister of Labour in the late 1970s and was known for his exceptional conciliatory skills.

She added that he provided yeoman service to the Party in many capacities, including as Vice President and Treasurer.

Mr. Isaacs first served as a Senator in the early 1970s and was elected as Member of Parliament for East Kingston from 1975 to 1980.
