JUNIOR athletes seeking places on Jamaica's teams to the CAC Junior Championships in Santo Domingo early next month and the World Junior Championships later this month concluded a second day of action at the G.C. Foster College yesterday, with several of them completing doubles at the meet.

World Junior 100 metres leader Dexter Lee returned to win his second event of the meet as he cruised to an easy 20.86 seconds to dominate the field in the boy's Under-20 200 metres, while Manchester High's Brandon Tomlinson (21.60) and Camperdown High's Jeffrey Josephs (22.00) took second and third respectively.

In the girl's Under-20 event, Queen's High School Diandra Gilbert (24.19) held off a late challenge from Holmwood Technical's Yanique Ellington (24.20) who finished second.

sprint double

Wolmer's Boys' Odean Skeen also captured the sprint double at the meet as he won the boy's Under-17 200 metres in 21.93 seconds to follow up his win in the 100 metres. Oshane Burrell of Manchester High clocked 23.09 seconds for the runner-up spot in the event. There are, however, concerns for Skeeen, who fell at the end of the race clutching his knee.

Calabar High School top thrower Chad Wright continued his impressive form as he won both the Under-20 boy's shot put and discus events. In the former he had a heave of 18.87 metres to defeat teammate Ashania Miller (18.40) metres. In the latter he threw 61.07 metres to beat another of his teamamates Travis Smikle who did 56.21 metres.

In the girl's Under-17 category, Holmwood Technical's Chris-Ann Gordon (54.69) seconds, held off Vere Technical's Olivia James (54.83) seconds. In the boy's event Manchester High's Lennox Williams easily won in 49.16 seconds.

outstanding

The girl's Under-20 event saw the outstanding Holmwood Technical athlete Janieve Russell showing her versatility following her success the previous day in the long jump. She clocked 53.70 seconds to win the 400m ahead of Edwin Allen High's Ristananna Tracey (53.97) and Manchester High's Sandrae Farquharson who finished third in 54.50 seconds.

The boy's Under-20 event saw one of the closest finishes of the day as Vere Technical's Jermaine Gayle overtook long time leader Javere Bell of Seaforth High to win the event in 47.20 seconds. Bell clocked 47.40 for second while Gayle's teamamate Demar Murray was timed in 47.44 seconds for third.

There was a shock result in the girl's Under-20 100 metres hurdle as Queens High Danielle Williams upstaged her more senior rivals Samantha Elliot of Immaculate High and St Jago High's Tonique Sobah.

Competing in a positive wind of 4.4 metres per second, Williams clocked 13.41 as Sobah (13.67) and Elliot (13.82) seconds had to settle for second and third, respectively. In the boy's Under-20 equivalent, Kingston College's Stefan Fennell (14.17) won ahead of Wolmer's Boys' Kamal Fuller in 14.23 seconds.
